The Case for the Campaign

Begun in 1891, LifeWay Christian Resources continues to be one of the world's largest publishers of religious materials. With world-wide influence via the distribution of its materials and with mission leaders across the globe, LifeWay certainly is producing fruit for the kingdom on a daily basis.
Why then initiate a program that is so different from what LifeWay has done in the past? It would have been far easier simply to expand upon the already positive influence LifeWay has world wide. However, after receiving input from ministers, missionaries, staff members and friends, it was obvious that world conditions demanded that certain initiatives needed to be undertaken and that LifeWay, with it contacts around the world and its infrastructure that has been developed over the years, was the obvious choice to undertake these initiatives.
When one considers the possibilities of reducing the scourge of AIDS, thus saving millions of lives; providing the first ever Chinese bible translated from original text by Chinese scholars,; disciplining leaders in countries like Cuba and Kenya; and establishing greatly needed leadership education courses for both pastors and lay people - and when you know that you have the organization and personnel to do this, it is impossible to turn your back and walk away from this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Therefore, it was decided that LifeWay would undertake these and other initiatives to touch the nations for Christ by applying the resources the Lord has entrusted to us.
However, while LifeWay had the infrastructure and personnel to undertake these programs, it lacked the financial resources necessary to bring them about. So in 2005, during his last year as president of LifeWay, Dr. Jimmy Draper began a new philanthropic program known as A Defining Moment. Through this campaign friends of LifeWay are being asked to participate with prayer and financial support. Due to the infrastructure and personnel already in place due to other LifeWay programs, the administrative cost of this campaign is very small. Thus, over 95% of all gifts provided for the campaign will go directly to fund ministry programs.
This bold and innovative campaign will not only result in millions of people coming to Christ, but the projects funded through this campaign will also be remembered as A Defining Moment for the millions who will receive a Bible, probably for the first time in their lives. Millions of others will see a decrease in AIDS and the reduction of teenage pregnancy in their countries. Finally, this campaign will provide a means to solve major cultural problems rather than the endless unproductive discussions regularly reported on the news. |
